Ch-Ch-Changes: Climate Today and in Earth’s Past
Join Tom Reershemius of the Yale Peabody Museum of Natural History Speakers Bureau for a virtual talk on climate today and in Earth’s past. “Climate change isn’t a problem because the climate’s always changed.” It’s a common phrase to hear in arguments about human-caused climate change – but is it justified? We will delve into the record of climate through Earth’s history to find evidence for past changes, and ask what – if anything – is different this time.
About Tom Reershemius: “I’m a graduate researcher in Geochemistry at Yale University’s Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences. I study the relationship between the Earth’s climate, life, and chemical cycles through time. I use techniques including chemical analysis of ancient and modern rocks and sediments, and computer models. When I’m not in the lab, I’m often playing soccer, cooking, or birdwatching.”
