All events are drop-in, and some of them have limited space, so make sure to show up on time to the panels you’d like to attend.  More detailed descriptions of events in the printed program that day.  Click the image below for a larger view. All programs are for all ages, but please read the program descriptions to determine if the program is right for your family.  Vendors are located in the Children’s Room for the duration of the Con. Panel Descriptions

Tea Party
10:00 to 10:30 am | Craft Room
Come dressed up for a Disney-themed tea party! Tea and juice will be served as well as light refreshments.

Face Painting
10:00 am to 12 pm; 2:00 to 4:00 pm | Lobby
Get your face painted to look like a super hero, fairy, cartoon character, or pretty much anything else you can imagine. Free.

Fight the Knight
10:30 to 11:30 am | Meeting Room
Calling all lords and ladies! Dost thou possess strength and bravery? Try your hand at fighting a knight! (Not to worry, parents. The swords are made of foam.) Presented by Laurel City Historical Fencing.

Tabletop Game Demos
10:30 am to 2:00 pm | Teen Area
Try out a variety of tabletop games such as Catan, Codenames, and more!

Pop Art Makeup
11 am to 12 pm | Craft Room
Professional makeup artists will teach you how to create a bold and dotted pop art look, as simple or as complex as you’d like!

Virtual Reality Demos
11 am to 12:30 pm; 2 to 3:30 pm | Studio Space
Try out virtual reality games and other applications with the library’s HTC Vive virtual reality system! Travel the world, paint in 3D, explore space, and more.

    Decorate your own superhero mask to wear at the con
  • Mario Piranha Plant: 12:05 to 12:45 pm
    Make a piranha plant inspired by the Super Mario video games
  • Superhero Letters: 1:45 to 3:00 pm
    Decorate a 3D letter in the style of your favorite superhero.
  • Hogwarts House Ties: 3:30 to 4:15 pm
    Create a Hogwarts tie based on whichever House you represent.

The Origin of Jack Kirby’s Black Panther with Arlen Schumer
11:30 am to 12:30 pm | Meeting Room
Marvel Studios released their long-awaited and much-anticipated Black Panther film in February 2018, a cinematic version of the Marvel Comics superhero that artist/storyteller Jack Kirby created back in 1965 as The Coal Tiger, a black superhero without a full-face mask—or mask of any sort—that The Black Panther would eventually wear when he debuted in print in ’66. The circumstances surrounding this drastic change, along with details and insight into the character’s fascinating origin and background that Kirby gave him, and how these are—and are not—reflected in the movie, will be discussed and shown by comic book art historian and illustrator Arlen Schumer (who’ll also be signing copies of his hardcover art history book, The Silver Age of Comic Book Art)

Character Meet and Greet

Meet some of your favorite superheroes, princesses, and more and get your picture taken with them!

Get to Know the Real Ninja
12:30 to 1:30 pm | Meeting Room
Ninja master Bobby McFarlane of Bujinkan Tekio Dojo will separate fact from fiction as he gives a talk and demonstration about what it’s like to be a real ninja.

Cosplay Workshop
1:00 to 2:00 pm | Craft Room
Learn about the different materials and methods you can use to build your own costumes and props with local cosplay masters!

Fandom & Social Media
1:00 to 2:00 pm | Studio Space
Hosted by the Connecticut Sci Fi Fanatics – a local shoreline group of adult science fiction and fantasy fans. Join the Connecticut Sci Fi Fanatics in a casual discussion on how Facebook, Twitter, and other social media outlets have influenced their lives and their fandoms, like Doctor Who, Harry Potter, and Star Wars.

Wizard Rock Block

Wrock out with a live performance from wizard rock bands Ludo Bagman & the Trash and Tianna & the Cliffhangers.
Note: This program will be held outside in the Library’s courtyard. In case of rain, it will be held in the Meeting Room.

Star Wars Drawing Class

Learn how to draw different characters from the Star Wars fandom. Taught by Art & Soul.

Free Lunch Studios: Mini Comic Workshop
