Reading can be stressful for children who are struggling with it, and reading to a silent furry partner can help. Sign up for a 15 minute reading slot with one of our licensed therapy dogs, Denver, with dog handler Kimber Tanaka. Parent/legal guardian must sign a permission form for their child to be alone in the room with the dog and therapy supervisor. Sign up for each week separately. Ages 6 & up. Read to Denver between 10:00-11:00am on any of the following Saturdays: 9/8, 9/22, 10/6, 10/27, 11/3, 11/17, 12/1, 12/15. You must call the library at (203) 453-8282 or stop by in person to sign up.
About Denver from his handler, Kimber: Denver is a senior pup, but still young at heart. He is the newest member of our Paws & Read team, with his handler Kimber, who moved to Connecticut from southern California just last year. Denver is a cockapoo (cockerspaniel/poodle mix) and turned 13 over the summer. He’s been with his handler Kimber since he was a puppy, and has had many adventures, including camping, surfing, and volunteering (he’s been a therapy dog since 2011). Denver loves treats, being pet while being read to, and saying hi to kids of all ages. He’d sit in your lap and snuggle all day if you let him, when he’s not chasing squirrels, that is.
