Title
First Armistice Day, November 7, 1918
Description
"November 7, 1918 known as the first Armistice Day, strong rumors persisted from early A.M. but could not be confirmed. So we did not close the factory (The Autocar Co..) however, directly after lunch period the employees could not suppress their elation and spontaneously walked out and paraded. In this picture I was addressing them and prevailed on them to return to their floors which they did. Nov. 11th became the official Armistice Day. An anti-climax as the 7th was the 'real' day for excitement." - W. W. Norton.
