This is not your average book club, and these are not your average books. Come to Nutmeg Book Club to discuss a different nominee each week for the 2023 Nutmeg Book Award Intermediate Level (Connecticut’s children’s choice book award for grades 4-6). After discussion, see if you know your stuff with a trivia/bingo game from the book, followed by a creative and fun activity. Thursdays, 2:00-3:30pm. Register for each session separately. Please read as much of the book as you can before the program so you’re prepared to share what you thought of the book and play games with us. The library has multiple copies of all of the Nutmeg nominees available to check out with your library card.
On June 30th, we’ll be making no-sew cat blankets to donate to a local animal shelter and talking about Katie the Catsitter, a graphic novel by Colleen A.F. Venable. Katie is dreading the summer ahead, while her best friends will be away at camp. But when Katie gets a job catsitting for her upstairs neighbor Madeline, things get interesting. For starters, Madeline has 217(!) cats. And they’re not exactly…regular cats. Plus, Madeline only seems to go out EXACTLY when the Mousetress, the city’s most notorious villain, commits a crime. Could it be that Katie’s neighbor is really a super villain? And that it’s up to Katie to wrangle a whole lot of wayward cats, save a best friendship, AND crack the biggest story in the city’s history?
