kolbe-paws-readRelax and read with Kolbe!  You can read to a therapy dog from the library’s Paws & Read program.  Children aged 5 & up who are reading independently can sign up for a 15-minute reading slot by calling the library at (203) 453-8282 or stopping by the children’s department.

Kolbe is a Labrador Retriever mix, although clearly his stomach is 100% labrador since he is always ready to eat!  He is 12 years old, although he looks pretty good for an older guy.  He has been making therapy visits for over ten years and loves getting out to meet people and making them as happy as he is.
Bob M., who is the guy on the other end of the leash, has been working with therapy dogs for almost 20 years.  Really, working is not the right word, since the dogs are the ones doing the work.  He lives in Guilford with his wife Michele and another labrador.

Kolbe will be at the library on the following Fridays from 4:00-5:00pm:  May 19th & June 2nd (future dates TBD).  You must call the library at (203) 453-8282 or stop by the children’s department to reserve your 15-minute reading spot ahead of time.  You may register for multiple days, but only one slot per day.  Open to ages 5 & up who are reading independently.

An adult must accompany the child and wait nearby while the child is reading, but does not need to sit in on the actual session.  All readers must check in at the children’s desk inside the library before reading to the dog.  Please stay home if you or anyone in your household is sick.  If you cannot make your session for any reason, please call us to cancel so we can open up the spot for other children, as spaces are limited.
