Decades of service

In 1966 a small group of local citizens banded together to form the Friends of the Guilford Free Library. Today, more than 600 members comprise our volunteer organization, whose mission is to support the Guilford Free Library in its effort to provide unparalleled literary, educational, technological, community and cultural services.

The funds that we raise, through our annual membership drive and the sale of used books, are donated in support of the library.

The dedication of the Friends allows the Guilford Free Library to offer services otherwise beyond its municipal funding, and helps assure our Library’s continuing excellence.

Volunteering

Sorting: Volunteers sort donated books for our three annual sales, our major fundraising activities.

Scanning: Volunteers scan books for online sales, an increasingly significant source of income.

Staffing book sales: Dozens of volunteers help set up, stock sales tables, serve as cashiers and assist customers.

Baking: Volunteers provide the home-baked goods that give the Fall Sale, our largest sale, an old-fashioned, small-town touch.

Supporting special projects: Volunteers assist with book groups, chess clubs, coding sessions and other programs.
