The high point of Japanese ukiyo-e or woodblock prints occurred  during the last part of the eighteenth and the first years of the nineteenth century. Beautiful women, Kabuki actors, and panoramic landscapes showing a new taste for travel were the subjects. The master printmakers included Utamaro, Hokusai, and Hiroshige.  Their graphic works also had a significant influence on many French Impressionists and on modern audiences.
