Event Details

In 1952, Irish teenager Philomena became pregnant out of wedlock and was sent to a convent where she had a baby boy named Anthony. Philomena worked unpaid at the Abbey, where she was forced to stay until her son was a toddler, at which point the Abbey placed him for adoption with a Catholic family in the United States.

For the next 50 years, Philomena searched for him. When a former BBC correspondent learns of the story, he becomes a friend and ally, and the pair traveled together to America to find Anthony. The movie is a fictionalization of the story of Philomena Lee and Michael Hess.

(2013). 97 minutes, PG-13, Drama, Comedy, Biography. Showing at 6pm on Monday, March 17th in the Library’s Meeting Room. Shown with captions.
