In celebration of National Library Week, join Connecticut Sisters in Crime (SinC-CT) writers Pat Dunn, Christine Falcone, Kathleen Kalb, Jamie Kleinkauf, and Ang Pompano for a discussion on their writing process. They’ll share insights on how they come up with their book ideas, plot twists, and develop their characters.

She is also the author of REBELS BY ACCIDENT (Sourcebooks, 2014) and LAST STOP ON THE 6 (Bordighera Press, C.U.N.Y. 2021). Dunn has served as Senior Director of the Writing Institute at Sarah Lawrence College, where she holds an MFA in creative writing. She coaches aspiring and established writers and teaches creative writing workshops. She is a co-founder of, and a lead instructor for, Key to the Castle Workshop and is the co-host of the Westport Library’s podcast, “Go Ahead, Write Something,” and co-chair of programming for Sisters-in-Crime CT. She lives in Stamford, Connecticut where she is currently working on her next novel, with her rescue puppies Blanqui and Cookie snuggled at her side.
Christine Falcone is the author of the Melanie Bass Mystery series. She has also previously published short stories in publications such as Imagine, Lancrom Review, and Deadfall: Crime Stories by New England Writers. She is a member of Sisters in Crime and Mystery Writers of America. Prior to her retirement she worked for nearly forty years as an RN in a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. She lives on the Connecticut Shoreline with her family and her dog Toby who is not nearly as well behaved as Bruno, the well beloved canine in her mystery series.
Kathleen Marple Kalb describes herself as an Author/Anchor/Mom…not in that order. An award-winning weekend anchor at New York’s 1010 WINS Radio, she’s the author of short stories and novels including the Old Stuff and Ella Shane series, both from Level Best Books. As Nikki Knight, she writes the Vermont Radio and Grace the Hit Mom series. Her stories, under both pen names, have been in Alfred Hitchcock’s Mystery Magazine, Black Cat Weekly, and many anthologies, and short-listed for Derringer and Black Orchid Novella Awards. Active in writer’s groups, she’s served as Vice President of the Short Mystery Fiction Society and Co-VP of the New York/Tri-State Sisters in Crime Chapter. She, her husband, and son live in a Connecticut house owned by their cat.
Jamie Kleinkauf is the author of the Hercule Purr-row Case Files and The Beekeepers of Lancaster series. In The Hercule Purr-row Case Files, readers meet Hercule Purr-row, an intuitively gifted tuxedo cat who solves mysteries from his cozy home at The Feline Express, a luxury cat hotel in historic Guilford, Connecticut. Along with his owner, former librarian Penny Lane, handsome veterinarian Dr. Paul Harrison, and retired detective neighbor Mrs. Maple, Hercule tackles mysteries that weave together present-day crimes and secrets from the past. Jamie’s The Beekeepers of Lancaster series transports readers to the town of Bird-in-Hand, Pennsylvania, where Amish traditions meet romance. These tales explore the warmth of community and the delicate dance of love in a simple, yet magical setting. When not writing, Jamie enjoys spending time with family, exploring new places, and, of course, thinking up new adventures for Hercule and his friends.
Ang Pompano is an award-winning mystery author, editor, and publisher with a passion for crafting compelling crime stories. He is the creator of the Blue Palmetto Detective Agency, and the Reluctant Food Columnist series, both published by Level Best Books.
