Jan Vanderburg
Showing in the Hallway Gallery from December 2nd through December 30th

Having moved to the Long Island shoreline in 2022 from New Mexico, I’m still taken by the stunning contrast between these coastal environments and the high desert landscapes where I’ve worked for so many years.
Colors, shapes, textures and the light of the landscape are my inspirations while the printmaking process of Reduction Linocut is my medium of choice to bring these inspirations to life.
Living and traveling overseas and the US have given me a wellspring of colors and images and those very different places are evident in this show. As the print comes to life, the final product may scarcely resemble the landscape or design I started with. I constantly adjust the shapes and colors depending on what occurred when the last color was applied and if the print is progressing in the direction I want it to. It’s a continuous exploratory process and each print is a new challenge.
