Free seeds for your garden! The library gives away both vegetable and native pollinator flower seeds in the spring and summer, while supplies last, that can be planted right away to grow that season. In autumn, the library harvests and gives away milkweed and other native pollinator flower seeds from our garden that can be planted in autumn or winter to sprout in the spring.
We source our seeds as a mix of purchases and donations from reputable seed companies. We do not accept seed donations from the public. We try to ensure that what we are distributing is fresh, environmentally responsible, and that it’s actually what we say it is. While we cannot guarantee that every seed we give away will germinate, our aim is to give our community members quality seeds so that they have a positive gardening experience and avoid negatively impacting the environment (with invasive/non-native plants, for example). We appreciate that some of our community members would love to give back by donating their surplus seeds, but the library is not the place to do it. If you have seeds to donate, try posting on your town’s online forum of choice, advertise in your area’s online “buy nothing” group, or contact any of your area’s gardening clubs (or start one of your own!). Thank you for your understanding.
