Event Details

Just in time for Valentine’s Day, this lively session will help set a romantic mood.   We will spend some time reading a variety of love poems, and we will see some videos of the poems being performed.   After discussing the poetry, the session leaders will guide you in practical approaches for writing love poems of your own.

This session will be fun, thought provoking, and low pressure.  No previous experience in discussing poetry or writing poems is required.  Beginners as well as seasoned poets are all welcome to attend.  You don’t even have to be in love to attend.  (But it couldn’t hurt.)

This Poetry and Discussion Workshop will be led by Guilford Poet Laureate, Mark McGuire-Schwartz and Cheshire Poet Laureate, Pat Mottola.

Mark McGuire-Schwartz strives to find a tad of originality in this world so overcrowded with words. This led to his creating a new poetic form, the Seventeen. Further, he believes that he may be the first person to ever use the phrase “iffy, itchy, icy, insular” in a poem, and that he is one of only a few poets to base a poem around words found on men’s room door.

Pat Mottola teaches Creative Writing at Southern Connecticut State University, where she earned both an M.S. in Art Education and an M.F.A. in Creative Writing. In addition to working with students at S.C.S.U., she is thrilled to teach both art and poetry to senior citizens throughout Connecticut.  She is the Poet Laureate of Cheshire.

*Workshop is 2 hours long.

This program is free and open to all.
