Jules Bakes is the author of Sea Legs, a middle grade graphic novel and fictionalized memoir created in collaboration with artist Niki Smith, which was recently named to the ALA’s 2025 list of Best Children’s Graphic Novels. She spent her childhood sailing around the Caribbean and South America, but these days she works at Yale University. She lives in Hamden, Connecticut with her husband, two weirdo little dogs, and the ghosts of many fish.

This program is made possible by the Lana Ferguson Literary Festival, an endowment given to the library for children’s programming by the family of a treasured former children’s librarian of the Guilford Free Library, Lana Ferguson, in her memory.
