Join Adriana Zabala, Associate Professor Adjunct of Voice and Assistant Dean of Collaborative Arts at the Yale School of Music, for an engaging talk on the Metropolitan Opera’s groundbreaking new production of The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay by Mason Bates.

Directed by Barlett Sher and based on Michael Chabon’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, this highly anticipated world premiere opened the Met’s 2025-26 season to sold-out audiences and critical acclaim. The production will be broadcast to theaters nationwide on Saturday, January 24.

Hailed by The New York Times as “a vivid, fearless presence” and the Los Angeles Times as “an extraordinary, vibrant mezzo,” Adriana Zabala has performed more than 55 operatic roles in the U.S. and abroad, including the creation of roles in seven American operas such as Sister Carrie, The Trial of Susan B. Anthony, and Doubt (PBS Great Performances). Her appearances include Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, and collaborations with leading orchestras and ensembles nationwide. A Fulbright Scholar and Distinguished Vocal Artist of the American Prize, she records for Naxos, Bridge, and New Focus, and is Associate Professor of Music at Yale University, co-founder of the Yale Song Lab, and Assistant Dean of Collaborative Arts—the first woman to hold a leadership role in the Yale School of Music’s history.

This program is free and open to all, and is co-sponsored by the Shoreline Opera Club, Guilford Free Library, and Shoreline Village.
