The Moses Gunn Play Company presents a staged reading of Shirley Valentine by Willy Russell, featuring Primi Townsend and directed by Julie Fitzpatrick. Join us for a special performance of this beloved play, brought to life by the gifted Primi Townsend.
“Shirley Valentine” is a warm, funny, and deeply moving one-woman play about an ordinary Liverpool housewife who begins to question the life she has settled into. Talking to her kitchen wall as she prepares her husband’s chips and egg, Shirley reflects on the spirited girl she once was and the routine that now defines her days. When a friend invites her on a spontaneous holiday, Shirley considers a bold step…Both hilarious and heartfelt, the play celebrates self-discovery, second chances, and the power of dreaming.
Primi Townsend (Shirley Valentine) is thrilled to be doing a staged reading of Shirley Valentine with the Moses Gunn Play Company and working with Julie Fitzpatrick again. Primi spent many years working on the UK stage, TV and Film, covering many different genres: Classical, comedy, Shakespeare and of course, Willy Russell!
Julie Fitzpatrick (Director) has performed Off-Broadway, in Regional Theatre, and in television and film. She is a member of the Ensemble Studio Theatre in New York City, The Guilford Poets Guild, and the Moses Gunn Play Company. Julie has written two solo shows and has a book of poetry and a play published and available for sale at Breakwater Books in Guilford. She teaches Acting for Adults and Create Your own Solo Show classes through the wonderful Legacy Theatre.
