While we know that methane emissions are a major cause of climate change, scientists still have many questions about the natural processes that add or remove methane from the Earth’s atmosphere. Contrary to one might expect, trees play a role in methane emissions, but it is unclear how. Join Jon Gewirtzman as he explores the hidden world of microbes living inside trees that may be the culprit behind their unexpected methane emissions, and how these microbes may matter for the health of our forests and our climate.

Jon Gewirtzman is a plant an ecosystem ecologist and biogeochemist. He is interested in how ecosystems influence and are influenced by the global cycles of carbon, nutrients, and greenhouse gases in our area of rapid environmental change.

This program is co-sponsored with the Yale Peabody Speakers Bureau and is free and open to all.
