Butterfly release days are to be determined, based on how many monarch caterpillars we find and successfully raise from our gardens, when they decide to emerge, and weather. Register below if you want to be informed of when butterfly releases are happening.
Monarch butterfly tagging demonstration and release. We will release butterflies that have been raised inside the library from our own native plant butterfly gardens. We will also demonstrate how we tag and sample butterflies without harming them to help the scientists who are studying and trying to help this endangered species. Interested patrons may check out their own butterfly tagging kits at the library, at releases and during all normal business hours, starting at our August 11th meeting. These monarch tagging kits include official Monarch Watch tags, a butterfly net, backpack, instructions, and data sheet. They can be checked out for up to 3 weeks, and must be returned to the children’s desk along with any unused tags (you keep the data sheet to submit to Monarch Watch’s website yourself).
