Are you trying to raise caring, empathetic kids but think you could use some reinforcement? Do you want to have “big ideas” conversations with your little humans but aren’t sure where to start? The Guilford Free Library is here to help. Each month we explore a different social-emotional topic or growing-up milestone through picture books, discussion, and activities which are appropriate and accessible to young children. Caregivers go home with a list of further resources and the confidence to continue teaching empathy. Led by children’s librarians and occasionally guest speakers. To keep discussion focused and comfortable, class size will be limited and registration will be required for each individual meeting.  This is for children aged 5-8 with attending adult.

In June, we will be discussing what it’s like to go to the hospital or doctor’s office. We will read picture books about the experience, and children will each get to be the doctor and use medical equipment such as a stethoscope to give a stuffed animal a check-up.  Children are encouraged to bring their own favorite doll, teddy, or stuffy, but there will be others available to use at the program.  Then we’ll do a doctor-themed craft.  All registered participants who attend will receive a free children’s book on going to the doctor.  The guest speaker at this program will be Stacey, a certified child life specialist, from Healing Hearts Child Life Private Practice.  Register below.  Thursday, June 11th from 4:15-5:15pm.
